What is She Roars?

She Roars is the first thought leadership training program designed for women in social change. The curriculum was developed by Wakeman CEO, Vanessa Wakeman, specifically with the goals of the nonprofit leader in mind: fundraising, capacity building and stakeholder engagement.

During our work with nonprofit leaders for the past almost two decades, we have found that the thought leadership journey for women is different, as women experience a unique set of external and internal challenges. She Roars helps address those challenges and gets women started on their thought leadership journey.

Why do I need to take a class to learn how to be a thought leader?

Contrary to popular belief, thought leaders are made, not born. There are specific strategies and tactics required to position yourself in a way that stakeholders will be driven and inspired to follow you. It is also important that you have the insights to qualify you as a thought leader.

Where does the program take place?

The She Roars Master Class and Solo Sessions are held online. Participation is through online modules, live Q&A calls, assignments, emails and a private social media community, to engage with other participants, as you wish.

She Roars is not a traditional leadership training program. It is focused specifically on how women can leverage their insights and expertise to build a thought leadership platform. The curriculum focuses on strategy and action, but also on mental roadblocks that often hinder women from believing that they have anything to offer as potential thought leaders.

How is She Roars different than other leadership training programs?

You will receive ongoing support throughout the program, through the coaching calls, masterminds and feedback on materials and information that you share, related to the strategy you create during the program. The more you participate and complete the modules and assignments, the more you will learn, to help you develop a comfort level with, and understanding of, how to embark on a successful thought leadership journey, for your unique area of expertise.

What kind of support will I receive during the Master Class program?

Dates for the new Master Class and Solo Sessions will be announced shortly.

What are the dates?

For the Master Class, we recommend three hours per week. This will allow you time to digest the lesson, complete any assignments and engage with the community.

There is also a considerable about of personal growth that corresponds with your new professional skills, that you will learn during the training. You want to make sure you give yourself the time and space to review any areas that bring up resistance for you. For example, if during the messaging module, you find yourself nervous about owning your thinking, you may want to spend additional time refining the language and points that you want to use for your thought leadership messaging.

There may be some weeks when you breeze through a module in less time, and others where you find yourself wanting to spend additional time to feel more confident. The good news is you will have access to the information for the full duration of the program, so you are free to go back and repeat lessons, and ask additional questions, as needed. Again, the more focus and time you put into your She Roars experience, the more you will get out of it. There are no fast results, though. Thought leadership is a journey not a destination, and you will need to put in the time and effort during and after the program, in order to reach your full potential.

What will the program cover?

The program does not provide you with a thought leadership focus area. It is the expectation that all participants have an idea, issue or innovation that they want to focus on. Through the program, you will be guided in distilling and refining your topic, based on your specific interest and expertise.

If you are an experienced leader, chances are you already have an area of expertise that you see as the foundation for your thought leadership. If you are an early or mid-level professional, and proactively looking to building your thought leadership platform, this program will help you understand everything that you will need to become a thought leader, so you can proactively prepare, but it will not “assign” you an area of focus.

What’s not covered in the program?

  1. Women who want to use their voices to champion a specific issue, or cause, are perfect candidates for She Roars.

  2. Women who believe that they have a unique perspective on an issue, that they would like to bring to a larger audience, will benefit from She Roars.

  3. Women in the nonprofit sector who need to rally more support for their respective missions.

  4. Women who know that thought leadership is the next step for them, yet who are experiencing internal resistance to seeing themselves in that role.
